"unsaid and unsent"

“Unsaid and Unsent “is about the thoughts, words, and ideas we carry but never express. Crumpled papers and thrown folded paper airplanes fill the overflowing trash can, representing unfinished ideas, unspoken feelings, and messages that never reached their destination. The metal figure sits quietly above, reflecting on all that has been left unsaid.

The familiar H-E-B grocery bag, a recognizable symbol of San Antonio, brings a touch of home and cultural identity. It reminds me of something we all have in common here in San Antonio, someone asking, “do you have an HEB bag?!”, an item we don’t just use for groceries but to carry the leftovers from a family event, trash bags, lunches or to hold our dirty/ wet clothes and from a day of swimming or a day trip tubing down the river.
Through an ordinary everyday scene, the piece reflects on the things we choose to hold onto, let go of, or simply leave unspoken. A reminder that sometimes those things are better left unsaid and unsent, or maybe the timing isn't right and maybe we simply need a little more time before we're ready to rewrite what we have to say.
